Where the fun happens, a recreation room is used for a variety of purposes, such as parties, games and other every day or casual use. Most often located in the basement, away from the main living areas of the house, it is usually a larger space than a living room to accommodate multiple purposes and entertain moderately large groups. A family/recreation room can vary in themes depending on the homeowner but the basic set-up consists of entertainment, seating, games and food/drink. The flooring can range from a mix of tile and carpet to stained concrete with some homeowners opting to install wood floors in the basement. The wet bar located in the family room creates a focal point for the room and a place for friends and family to gather. More recently, some homeowners are electing to install a fireplace in the basement as well, which creates a sense of warmth in the basement. Additional amenities that can be found in family/recreation rooms are gaming areas for hosting pool tables, ping pong tables and dart boards, theater rooms and surround sound.
The Family Room is a great addition to the home and creates a separate area for entertaining friends and family.
